Skin that feels tight and dry after a long winter is not uncommon for those living in the Nordic region. During the winter months, the skin needs some extra care, but it’s important to maintain moisture throughout the year. Sun exposure and salty baths can have a drying effect on the skin – therefore, Eucerin’s skincare expert, Caroline Martinsson recommends the best products for soft and healthy skin in spring and summer.
Sun, wind, and water are delightful, but they can contribute to dry and irritated skin during the summer months. As many as four out of ten Swedes experience problems with dry and cracked skin, and three-quarters feel uncomfortable due to their dry skin. With good habits and the right skincare, these issues can be reduced, resulting in visibly and noticeably improved skin.
“Sun exposure and salty baths can significantly dry out the skin, so to combat dry skin on the body, it’s important to use barrier-strengthening and moisturizing products – generously and frequently. Eucerin offers three different dermatological skincare series with products for light to extremely dry skin, perfect for incorporating into your daily body care routine year-round,” says Caroline Martinsson, skincare expert at Eucerin.
1: Hydrate the skin in the shower immediately after bathing
Water can be drying as it affects the skin’s natural protective barrier. Particularly harsh are saltwater, which can dry out the skin, and pool water – containing chlorine – which can leave the skin dry, tight, and irritated. Therefore, make it a habit to shower as soon as possible after bathing and use an intensely moisturizing cleansing product, such as shower oil.
2: Use a pair of exfoliating gloves
Use a pair of exfoliating gloves, available at pharmacies, when cleansing the skin in the shower, but limit use to once or twice a week. Gentle exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, prevents rough skin, and promotes radiance.
3: Moisturize the skin with hydrating lotion
Always moisturize the skin after showering or bathing, preferably within a few minutes to retain the moisture present on the skin. Use a moisturizing and softening body lotion that strengthens the skin’s natural barrier.”
