Perched 104 meters above the ground atop the Skrapan building on Södermalm, Restaurang Himlen has long been celebrated for its unparalleled 360-degree views of Stockholm. A Warm and Inviting Transformation
The interior redesign has transformed the space into a warmer and more inviting atmosphere. Specially crafted lighting fixtures and custom-designed furnishings contribute to a cozy yet sophisticated ambiance, enhancing the overall dining experience. Architect Simon Scheiwiller from Gatun Arkitekter has carefully upgraded the space, incorporating elements that subtly nod to the Skrapan building’s classic 1950s history.
The Artistic Experience
At Restaurang Himlen, large-scale visual art is an integral part of the overall experience. Stockholm-based artist Maria Krull has created a vibrant artistic vision that adds warmth and human emotion to this modern Södermalm landmark. Her signature works, described as abstract realism, depict women in various emotional states, contributing to a welcoming and thought-provoking atmosphere.
Krull’s large-scale original pieces at Himlen, painted on plexiglass and canvas, measure up to 2 x 8 meters and 2 x 4 meters, with titles such as My Way, My Moment, My Shine, My Day, My Night. These striking, colorful works do not just complement the breathtaking city views—they compete with them, ensuring that the interior is just as captivating as the skyline beyond.
A New Era for Himlen
On November 5, 2024, Himlen officially launched its new lunch service, keeping the sky bar open for guests throughout the day, evening, and night. Founder and CEO Niklas Ahlbom envisions the venue as Södermalm’s sky bar—a relaxed yet sophisticated gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

The Swedish Culinary Focus
The new food concept at Himlen is centered entirely around classic Swedish cuisine, with a strong focus on locally sourced ingredients.
- Lunch Menu: Traditional Swedish home-style lunches, such as Oxrullader (braised beef rolls) and Vegetarian kroppkakor (potato dumplings), priced between 155-175 SEK per dish.
- Evening Menu: Swedish classics with a modern touch, including Lerpottasill (creamy herring dish), Havskräftsoppa (Norwegian lobster soup), Wallenbergare (veal patties), Baked Arctic Char, and Blue Mussels.
- Sustainable Ingredients: All produce is sourced from Sweden, with fresh herbs and greens grown in Himlen’s inner courtyard garden.
