One of the biggest challenges was replacing ingredients derived from animals without compromising on performance. For example, carmine, a red pigment from insects, was swapped out for synthetic or natural alternatives. Even tougher was finding a substitute for beeswax in mascaras—a task that required extensive lab testing and innovative partnerships.
